September

Okay...so things have calmed down A LOT!!  It has only taken 6 LONG weeks but we are now starting to feel like we've gotten the hang of this whole parenting thing.  : )

We have figured out little tricks here and there to help us with the girls.  For instance, Avery use to spit up A LOT and would projectile vomit all over us...not too fun!  We figured out that she had to be fed upright and the milk had to be the right temperature...if it was too warm...formula all over the place!  We also put her on a special Acid Reflux formula that is thicker than regular formula.  She still spits up a little when we burp her but that's it...it has really helped a lot!  We put the girls on a schedule where they eat, then stay up, then sleep.  Avery is pretty easy to keep up...Addison is not!  So we figured out that if you lay her down on her back she stretches and wakes up...who would have thought laying a baby down would wake them up?!  They have both decided to hysterically cry and cry and cry when they don't want to go to sleep.  We have figured it out (the hard way) that the best thing to do is pick them up for a minute or two, let them calm down, then put them back down.  Of course most of the time they don't go to sleep they continue to cry.  We let Addison cry it out because she usually will fall asleep after a few minutes.  Avery is a different story.  That girl could cry hysterically for hours!  So we have to go in every once in a while and calm her down.  Avery is also my little reminder that it is getting close to feeding time!  It is like that girl can tell time.  Day and NIGHT she lets me know that she needs food every three hours.  Addison is my sleeper...she is like her mama!  She would probably sleep through the night if Avery let her/us!

Here is what our day looks like..
Between 4:30-5:00 in the morning Avery wakes us up to eat :)  If it is after 5:00 they stay up for an hour... then nap! If it is before 5:00 they go right back to sleep.
7:30-8:00 Feed the girls...keep them up for an hour...nap
10:30-11:00 Feed the girls...keep them up for an hour...nap
1:30-2:00 Feed the girls...keep them up for an hour...nap (Avery fights sleep=her fussy time)
4:00-4:30 Feed the girls...keep them up for an hour...nap (Avery fights sleep again=fussy time)
7:00-7:30 Feed the girls...keep them up for an hour...nap (Addison fights sleep=her fussy time)
9:30-10:00  Feed the girls...right to sleep (If Addison isn't fussy at 7:00 she is fussy now)
1:00-1:30 Avery wakes us up to eat : )

Thats our day!  If it is nice outside we throw a walk in after the first morning feeding or after the 7:00 pm feeding.

The girls have also started sleeping in their crib!  We started them off just sleeping in their crib during the day but it worked so great that after the fourth day we decided they should try sleeping in it at night too!  Last night was the first night and they did great!  I checked the monitor several times through out the night just to make sure they were okay! : )  I did have a horrible dream that I was in bed looking at the girls in the monitor and I saw someone grab the girls out of the crib!  In my dream I tried to wake Marcus up but he wouldn't wake up...it was HORRIBLE!!!

Here are a few new pics from the last week or so...

Avery and Addison

Our family is complete!  Avery and Addison came into this world on July 29th, 2011. We were able to meet our sweet angels two weeks early because I was SOOO swollen.  My doctor thought it was best for me and the girls.
Both girls had to stay in the hospital for six days.  It was so hard leaving them but it was for the best.  The girls were monitored 24 hours a day, we were able to come home and get the house ready for them, the NICU nurses taught us how to feed the girls, change their diapers, burp them, etc., and when we finally were able to take the girls home they were already on a schedule.  They eat every three hours and they won't let us forget! : )
One happy daddy!

These girls are definitely loved!

Avery Kate Edwards weighed 4 lbs 14 ozs.
Addison Anne Edwards weighed 5 lbs 9 ozs.

The first time I got to hold Addison...it was the longest two days of my life waiting to hold her!
The first few nights were a little overwhelming but we have slowly gotten the hang of it!  Marcus has been amazing!  The girls are so lucky to have a daddy like him!

Avery sleeping after she kept us up almost all night!  Little stinker! : )

The girls are doing fabulous!  The doctor is very impressed with their weight gain.  At their two week appointment Addison weighed 6 lbs 9 ozs (gained 1 pound in a week!) and Avery weighed 5 lbs 14 ozs (also gained 1 pound in a week!)  Both girls are such good babies.  They are on a three hour eating schedule...most nights are good...some of course are not.  We are trying to keep them up a bit after each feeding during the day BUT it is really difficult keeping those girls up!!!  We try everything!  We won't give up though... Once we are successful at keeping them up a bit during the day the nights should get easier.
